snow for the holidays

Colorado got a huge snow storm just before christmas.

We went up to Rollinsville for some snowshoeing the next day.

As usual, it was pretty windy up there - but was still fun times.

We need a little more junk in our "storage" room

So we either need to get a bigger place or get rid of some of our stuff!

6 bikes, more climbing gear than you can poke a stick at, camping stuff and assorted mess.

New bike for Amber!

We took Amber's new bike to Moab for the weekend to get it dirty!

Either the new bike passion struck hard or the fact that the Ibis is a great technical climbing bike - probably a mix of both - Amber was riding up and down all sorts of obstacles she had never even tried before.

Did I mention how nice the Ibis looks?

Moab of course always served up fun riding and awesome pictures.

Pretty and Strong! that describes the Ibis.

Day 4 - Devils Racetrack, San Rafael Swell
I have been wanting to get over to San Rafael Swell for a couple of years now, but just have never made the trip. So being rather intimidated by what I had read about 5 miles of Hell I took a conservative option and selected Devils Racetrack as the first sampling of the region. It is a 9 mile out and back ATV trail reputed to have lots of fun ledges. Being an out and back it gave me the option of turning around any time if something went wrong or it was just to brutal.

Fortunately we were pleasantly suprised, it reminded me a lot of flat pass but with even more fun obstacles.

Everything your ride down on the way out you ride up on the way back and everything your blast down on the way out you pick your way up on the way back. Everything was very rideable for the technically strong and there are all sorts of options to keep everyone amused. :)

It also happens to be a very picturesque area!

Day 3 - Sovereign Singletrack

Day 3 - Sovereign Singletrack
Always a fun romp, we took it easy today. Gold Bar Singletrack always leaves me feeling tired and worn out as it is unrelenting and very physical. I also wanted to make sure we had energy and strength for the ride tomorrow, I am not sure what it will entail so err on the side of safety.

Day 2 - Gold Bar Singletrack

Day 2 - Gold Bar Singletrack
This is easily my Favorite Moab ride, it something for everyone and I expect it will keep me amused and challenged for years an years to come. (and then a few more years). I have never done what I think would be the perfect epic ride - across Gold Bar Single Track, down Portal, back up Poison Spider, back across Gold Bar and back to your car. Mostly because it is just to much riding for me in a late fall or winter day, but it remains a goal for sometime in the future.

1. Somwhere in the lower singletrack section

2. Same section, different angle, different rider

3. I love this section, some many obstacles in a row that if you lose momentum you are doomed, but if you nail it, oh so sweet!

4. Towards the end of the lower singletrack section

5. Back on the jeep trail briefly

6. Off in the wild blue yonder

7. Some really nice scenery along the rim

8. And some attention demanding sections (not hard, but makes you focus!)

9. Turning around so that we can get back before it gets dark

Thanksgiving Weekend 2006 - Moab, UT

4 days of riding in the Desert, many late starts, much fun and lots of pictures. Only one ride each day. Beers and good food each night.

Day 1 - Baby Steps
This has been around for a while now apparently but I had never gotten over there and ridden it until very recently. It is some fun singletrack in the desert with some nice obstacles to play on/over along the way.

1. Amber starting the singletrack.

2. Me profiling my new ibis :D

3. Exiting the first singletrack section onto the Klondike slickrock

4. Fun little lift in the second singletrack section

5. Heading down a wash for something different

6. Exiting the wash (it was fun riding in the wash or the slickrock with just a little portage section)
