Sedona, December 24th 2008

The next day we decided to go and try another area that had a few local knowledge trails that I had read about on MTBR. We started up a trail called Munds Wagon Trail or something like that. The riding was still good but it was decidedly looser with baby heads floating around many trail sections.

Amber coming down a rocky section that is steeper than it looks.

We ended up turning around here as the trail was just a little loose for our tastes after this. But there was still nice slick rock to be had.

Amber taking an alternate line across a steep slick rock section.

The trail criss-crossed a creek many times which I imaging if there was water flowing could be quite problematic.

Back in the parking lot.

We decided to head down to Phoenix the next day and see how the riding on South Mountain was. It hosted a trail called the National Trail which in the rock climbing world would be on a 50 most crowded list - but for good reason...

What kind of bike rack is that? Never seen one, but looks like it would work well.

What are your thoughts on it? Looking for a new hitch rack.

Hello Sean and/or Amber

I'm writing from Bike Magazine. We are looking for some imagery from Mund's Wagon trail and a few others on your site. Need to figure something out by the beginning of next week. Please let me know if you think you can help us out. Thank you much. Please email me back here. Morgan@bikemag.com

I also have an FJ Cruiser and considering the same rack you have (NSR 4-BIKE) could you tell me if you can open the rear door with the rack tilted down? Did you have to install any additional hardware for door clearance?

Thank you

MVE - if you tilt the rack fully down with the bikes still on you can open the back door almost completely open but not quite. Plenty open enough to easily access the back. Nothing special is needed.

Awesome -- thank you! Do you still like the rack after using it for a while?

I can't remember when we got this rack it was sometime before 2008 and we still have it and love it. I would buy it again in a flash and have almost jumped to the 6 bike version couple of times.

The rack is finally showing metal fatigue in a key area so I am have a welder put support material over it to re-strengthen everything.

I drive to ride somewhere most weekends and most of the time have 4 bikes on the back (2 DH, 2 Trail) and drive through rough terrain in Moab with the bikes about 8-10 weekends a year so for the rack to have lasted so well over the past 3-4 years is a huge thumbs up for me.

Thank you again for your feedback -- it's great to know you are still happy with product and the fact that you are not babying it says a lot about it's durability. I too drive through some bumpy fire roads and was a bit concerned with bikes swinging wild in the back. The cool thing with the FJ is that it's wheel base is shorter than most other SUVs.
